In a letter directed to Nyanza Regional Police Commander, Evelyn Nyamohanga, Governor Orengo said that despite three suspects being in custody following the incident, the alleged ringleader and several other perpetrators are yet to be apprehended.

The Siaya Governor warned that the continued freedom of the suspects pose a threat not only to individual leaders but also to democratic institutions.

“We write to formally acknowledge and appreciate the recent efforts by the police in apprehending three suspects linked to the recent attack on Osotsi. While this is a commendable step toward justice, we wish to bring to your urgent attention that several other perpetrators remain at large,” reads the letter in part.

Orengo further requested the immediate arrest of Willis Akoth, alias Boi Akoth, who he claims is a central figure in the case.

He stated that the available photographic and CCTV material appears to place him at the scene of the attack and suggests he was coordinating the group involved.

“Of particular concern is the continued freedom of the alleged ringleader, identified as Willis Akoth. Despite the availability of clear photographic and CCTV footage placing him at the scene of the attack, where he is seen coordinating the group, he is yet to be apprehended and taken to court,” Orengo’s letter dated April 10, states in part.

A Kisumu court had already ordered the detention of three suspects linked to the reported assault of Senator Godfrey Osotsi for seven days, to allow investigators to conclude their inquiries into the incident.

The three suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Daniel Chumba in connection with a robbery with violence case arising from the attack on the senator.
