The National Police Service (NPS) has launched a manhunt for Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai following violent clashes at a Youth Empowerment Meeting in Kuresoi Sub-County, Nakuru County, that left three people nursing gunshot wounds.

In a statement issued on Friday, the incident occurred at Sirikwa Umoja Grounds during an event attended by several political leaders, including Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Bahati MP Irene Njoki.
According to NPS, preliminary investigations indicate that a confrontation broke out between suspected goons allegedly allied to MP Mutai and supporters of Governor Kihika.
The clashes quickly escalated into violence, with several people sustaining gunshot injuries before being rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Police further reported that a bus, registration number KDQ 155G, which had transported tents and chairs to the venue, was set on fire by unknown individuals during the unrest.
The NPS said it is actively pursuing Mutai, who is reportedly on the run, alongside other individuals believed to have played a role in the violence.
“We urge Hon. Mutai to present himself at the nearest police station to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” the NPS statement read in part.
The Service emphasized that no individual is above the law, regardless of their political position or social status, warning that those found sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting violence, or disrupting lawful gatherings will face legal action.
NPS also cautioned members of the public against engaging in political violence and goonism, urging leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint, respect differing political views, and uphold the rule of law.
The statement comes just hours after President William Ruto directed security agencies to intensify a crackdown on goons and the individuals financing violent groups accused of causing unrest and disruption across the country.
Speaking during a burial service in Nandi County on Friday, directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and security agencies to take firm action against the rising menace of goons and political violence.
