Starehe Boys’ Centre and School has announced an early closure for the mid-term break, adjusting its academic calendar to allow for preparations ahead of the institution’s annual Founders Memorial event.

In a statement issued by Director Fred Okono, the school said students will proceed on half-term break on Friday, June 19, 2026, and return on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

According to the school, the revised schedule is intended to provide sufficient time for preparations for the Founders Memorial, which is set to take place on Sunday, June 28.

“We are breaking early so as to return on time for preparations for the Founders Memorial that is scheduled for Sunday 28th June 2026,” Okono said.

Okono noted that despite recent unrest that has disrupted learning in a number of schools across the country, students at the institution have continued with their studies and character development programmes uninterrupted.

He praised the students for remaining focused and committed to the school’s mission of academic excellence, discipline and character formation.

“Amidst the unrest that has disrupted learning in many schools, the ‘Men of Starehe’ have remained steadfast as they continue to enjoy the unique freedoms and character formation that the mission of Starehe gives priority,” he said.

The director wished the students a restful and enjoyable break with their families and friends, while urging them to travel safely ahead of their return for the second half of the term.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced that the second-term midterm break for schools in Kenya will run from June 24 to June 28, 2026.

Despite growing concerns over student unrest and a wave of school fires across the country, Ogamba said the official 2026 academic calendar remains intact and that schools will not close early.
