The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has directed all driving schools to register with the Authority, to ensure compliance with national road safety regulations and improve the quality of driver training across the country.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday April 14, 2026, NTSA said it was mandatory for all the driving schools to register and obtain valid licenses.
“Notice on driving school services. All driving schools are required to register with the Authority for training drivers,” the NTSA announced.
The driving schools will be required to submit a series of documents during the application process, including Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN for the institution, a certificate of registration, KRA PINs of directors and identification documents for the directors or CEO.
Additionally, applicants are required to submit a mobile phone number that is not linked to any existing Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) account.
The application process will be conducted through the eCitizen platform. To begin, applicants are required to log in, select the NTSA service portal, complete the application form, and upload the required coloured photographs.
Once done, the client will wait for approval and SMS verification. NTSA noted that physical inspection will be conducted by the authority’s officers.
NTSA further stated that applicants will be required to make the necessary payments before being issued a license. NTSA indicated that the entire process takes about 10 working days to complete.
Upon issuance, the Authority emphasized that the license must be printed and visibly displayed at the driving school.
