Police Seize Over 200 Cartons of Suspected Counterfeit Alcohol in Kericho Raid

Police have seized more than 200 cartons of suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks during a raid on an illegal distillery in Kapsuser, Belgut Sub-county, as authorities intensify efforts to eliminate illicit alcohol from Kericho County.

The operation, carried out by a multi-agency security team, targeted several villages and trading centres believed to be involved in the manufacture and distribution of illegal liquor.

Officers recovered the suspected counterfeit alcohol from a makeshift brewing site, although those behind the operation escaped before the security team arrived.

Belgut Police Commander David Koech said investigations are underway to identify and arrest the suspects linked to the illegal business.

He warned that law enforcement officers would not relent in pursuing individuals involved in the production and sale of illicit alcohol.

“Those involved in the manufacture and sale of counterfeit and illicit alcohol will be arrested and arraigned in court, ” warned Koech.

The police commander added that the ongoing crackdown would continue until the area is cleared of illegal brews, noting that security agencies remain committed to protecting residents from the dangers associated with counterfeit alcohol.

The latest seizure forms part of a wider campaign against illicit liquor, which authorities say continues to pose a serious threat to public health and safety.

Security officials have urged members of the public to share information that could help dismantle illegal brewing networks and prevent dangerous products from reaching consumers.
