Police officers in Nyamira County have intensified the crackdown on illicit alcohol following a successful raid that led to the seizure of thousands of litres of illegal brews in Manga Sub-County.

In a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS), officers from the Omogonchoro Police Patrol Base under Sengera Police Station conducted an operation in the Kiomakondo area of Getare Location, where they arrested a suspected notorious brewer linked to the illegal trade.
“Acting on intelligence, a team of officers from the Omogonchoro Police Patrol Base under the Sengera Police Station command launched a targeted crackdown in the Kiomakondo area of Getare Location,” NPS stated.
During the raid, police recovered 780 litres of Chang’aa that had already been processed and packaged in 20-litre jerrycans. Officers also discovered 5,530 litres of Kangara, which was destroyed at the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody pending processing and arraignment in court, while the recovered Chang’aa was secured as an exhibit.
Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the National Police Service to dismantle illicit alcohol networks and protect communities from the dangers associated with illegal brews.
“This successful operation underscores the NPS’s ongoing commitment to eradicating the menace of illicit brews, which threaten the health and safety of our communities,” NPS noted.
“The crackdown remains active and will continue until these illegal networks are completely dismantled,” the service added.
