Former Industrialisation CS Adan Mohamed has been sworn in as the new Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner-General following his appointment on May 18, 2026.

Mohamed was sworn in at the Supreme Court on Wednesday May 20, following his appointment on May 18 by National Treasury CS John Mbadi through a gazette notice.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury appoints Adan Abdulla Mohamed to be the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 18th May, 2026,” read the gazette notice.
He will serve a three-year term, replacing Humphrey Wattanga, who left the office in April.
His appointment has, however, been challenged in court, with the petitioners arguing that it violates constitutional and public service regulations governing retirement age.
In a legal challenge filed on May 19 against his appointment, one of the central issues raised concerns the age requirement. Public records indicate that he was born in December 1963, placing him at approximately 62 years old.
The petitioner argues that this exceeds the mandatory retirement age for public officers, which is set at 60 years under Regulation 70 of the Public Service Commission Regulations issued by the Public Service Commission of Kenya.
On that basis, the petition claims the appointment contravenes established public service rules, exceeding the retirement threshold by about two years.
