KeNHA to Temporarily Close Uhuru Highway for Planned Roadworks

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary closure of road sections on Uhuru Highway and Haile Selassie Roundabout to allow for scheduled road works.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Thursday January 15, 2026, KeNHA noted that the closure, which will mainly take place at night, will take effect from Friday January 23, 2026 to Sunday January 25, 2026.

According to KeNHA, the closure will be executed in phase intervals during less busy hours between 10 pm to 5 am, to avoid interference with traffic flow.

“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of road sections on Uhuru Highway/Haile Selassie Roundabout. The closure is scheduled in phase intervals between 10 pm to 5 am from Friday January 16, 2026 to Sunday January 18, 2026,” the statement read.

The second phase will be done from Friday January 23, 2026 to Sunday 25, 2026, during the same time intervals.

The authority highlighted CBD bound lanes, Upper Hill bound lanes, Mombasa bound lanes and Nakuru bound lanes as some of the road sections to be affected.

Acting Director General of KeNHA Luka Kimeli, reiterated that the works are part of the authority’s effort to improve the quality of the roads and ensure safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“This is to allow for reinstatement of the Tarmac (Asphalt Concrete Layer),” he said.

Motorists were further urged to plan their travel accordingly and follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals.

“Motorists are advised to follow the traffic management plan in place and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals on site.”
