Detectives from the DCI headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) have apprehended a couple accused of swindling Sh2.4 million from a land buyer.

The investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed on behalf of a woman residing in Denmark, who had authorized her sister to purchase a parcel of land in Mwihoko, Ruiru Sub-County, valued at Sh2.4 million.
However, the transaction took a fraudulent turn when, during the title transfer process at Ardhi House, it emerged that the land was registered to another individual and did not belong to the seller. The discovery raised concerns, prompting the complaint to escalate into a full investigation.
After thorough investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and further action.
“Upon review, the ODPP directed that the suspects, 53-year-old Patrick Karimi Kamara and 50-year-old Alice Wanjiru Kanyoro, both secondary school teachers, face charges for Obtaining Money by False Pretences,” a statement from the DCI read.
“Today, justice took its course as the couple was arrested and is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” DCI added.
The investigative body said the case highlights ongoing land fraud concerns in the country, emphasizing the need for vigilance in real estate transactions.
