Police officers in Nairobi have arrested several suspects and recovered assorted narcotics following an intelligence-led operation in the Laini area of Kibra.

Acting on actionable intelligence, undercover officers from Kenya National Police Service based at Kibra Police Station conducted a sting operation that led to the arrest of key suspects linked to illicit drug activity.
During the operation, officers recovered assorted narcotics and related items, including syringes and needles, liquid drugs, unidentified tablets, “Moody” tablets, multiple rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), alcohol swabs, cotton wool, and packets of candles.
The suspects were taken into custody and are being held pending further processing and arraignment in court. The recovered exhibits were secured at the police station as investigations continue.
The National Police Service said it will continue to intensify intelligence-led crackdowns on illegal drug networks across the country.
In a separate incident still in Kibra, police carried out another targeted operation in the Laini Saba area within the Amref Grounds locality, aimed at dismantling organised criminal gangs.
During the second operation, officers encountered individuals believed to be members of a notorious gang armed with pangas and other dangerous weapons. On sighting police, the suspects fled, prompting a hot pursuit.
Although most escaped into nearby densely populated areas, officers tracked them to a hideout and arrested one suspect who was found armed with a machete.
The suspect allegedly resisted arrest but was subdued, and the weapon was recovered without injury. He is currently in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
Preliminary investigations indicate that he is a key figure in the notorious “Panga Squad” gang, accused of terrorising residents of Laini Saba and surrounding areas through robbery, intimidation, and violent attacks. Several complainants have reportedly identified him as one of the group’s principal leaders.
The National Police Service commended residents for cooperating with law enforcement through timely information sharing, noting that community support has been critical in crime prevention and detection efforts.
The service reiterated that operations targeting criminal networks in Kibra and other parts of the country will continue with increased intensity to ensure public safety.
