A sitting of the Narok County Assembly descended into chaos on Tuesday afternoon after rival Members of the County Assembly exchanged blows during a heated debate over an impeachment motion targeting Finance County Executive Committee Member David Ole Muntet.

The confrontation disrupted assembly proceedings and forced security officers to escort Speaker Davis Ole Dikir out of the chamber as tensions spiralled out of control.
The drama began shortly after the session commenced when disagreements emerged among MCAs regarding the planned motion seeking the removal of the county finance executive.
According to members present during the sitting, divisions intensified after some MCAs who had initially supported the impeachment motion were accused of changing their position at the last minute, triggering anger among colleagues backing the ouster.
Tensions reportedly escalated further when Speaker Ole Dikir rose to communicate proposed leadership changes within the assembly and proceeded to read the motion ahead of the anticipated vote.
Moments later, the assembly chamber turned chaotic as lawmakers engaged in physical confrontations, forcing proceedings to be suspended abruptly.
Security personnel attached to the assembly intervened to restore order and escorted the Speaker to safety as the fighting continued inside the chamber.
Speaking after the incident, Speaker Ole Dikir attributed the chaos to disagreements surrounding proposed leadership changes brought before the assembly by members from different political sides.
“Today we received a proposal from both members of coalition on changes of leadership and I was doing the communication, there was fracas of members and I wouldn’t advise further, members will address the issues they had,” Dikir stated.
“This will be stopped by the party membership having discussions away from the assembly because my role is if you bring a communication by the majority members, that is what I’ll do,”he added.
Sources within the assembly indicated that the wrangles involved members from both the majority and minority factions, with accusations emerging that some legislators had abandoned an earlier agreement to support the emergency motion against the Finance CECM.
The motion against Muntet is reportedly centred on allegations of financial mismanagement, arrogance in office and the alleged stalling of development projects within the county without clear explanation.
MCAs supporting the impeachment have also called for investigations into the county’s expenditure and want the Office of the Auditor General to conduct a comprehensive audit into the management of county funds.
The legislators insist that individuals found responsible for any misuse of public resources should face legal action.
Despite the disruption witnessed during the sitting, the faction seeking Muntet’s removal maintained that the process would continue until the matter is fully addressed by the assembly.
