UDA-ODM cooperation deepens with formation of Broad-Based management committee

President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have agreed to form a Broad-Based Management Committee to coordinate government business and legislative agenda.

The unveiling of the committee followed a joint consultative meeting co-chaired by President William Ruto and ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga at State House in Nairobi.

In a statement released by the two parties, the committee will comprise the party leaders, selected Cabinet Ministers, and the Majority and Minority Leaders in Parliament.

“The two party leaders have agreed to establish a Broad-Based Management Committee comprising the party leaders, selected Cabinet Ministers, and the Majority and Minority Leaders in Parliament,” read part of a statement.

The committee will be tasked with coordinating and synchronizing the legislative and executive agenda of the government to ensure coherence, efficiency, and effective service delivery.

The meeting also focused on strengthening collaboration and exploring areas of mutual interest between ODM and UDA.

In a key resolution, the parties mandated the respective party chairpersons to continued structured and regular consultations across party organs.

“These ongoing engagements are intended to build consensus on priority issues and lay the foundation for a formal coalition of equals between UDA and ODM,” the statement stated.

During the meeting, Ruto and Oburu reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue, unity of purpose, and a shared national vision.

The announcement comes after contentious issues rocked the two parties, particularly zoning, which has sparked a rift between some ODM and UDA leaders.

In particular, a section of ODM leaders maintains that coalition partners must agree not to field candidates against each other in specific electoral regions to avoid internal competition.
