Two arrested as police seize bhang worth millions in Kilifi operations.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit have arrested two suspects following the seizure of a large consignment of bhang during a police intelligence operation carried out in Langobaya, Kilifi County.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was carried out on Tuesday, January 27,2026, in Chakama Township, Langobaya Division. This was after police officers from Langobaya Police Station received a tip-off from members of the public.

They moved swiftly to the scene and conducted a search at a shop suspected to be linked to illegal drug activities.

During the search, the officers recovered 220 rolls, approximately nine kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa concealed inside a steel box alongside other items. The recovered narcotics were immediately secured as exhibits at Langobaya Police Station.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently held in police custody pending arraignment in court to face relevant charges.

Law enforcers have assured that further investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are part of a wider and notorious drug trafficking network operating within the coastal region.

In a statement issued by the National Police Service, members of the public were applauded for providing information that led to the successful operation. The service went on to reiterate on its commitment to curb the spread of narcotic drugs and related criminal activities.

The police also urged the public to continue sharing relevant information through official communication channels to aid in dismantling drug networks within communities.

The arrest comes at a time of heightened national efforts to address drug abuse and trafficking.

Recently, President William Ruto declared publicly a renewed war on narcotics. According to him, drug abuse is a major threat to Kenya’s social fabric, security, and economic development.

He called for tougher enforcement of existing laws and proposed harsher penalties for major drug traffickers, including discussions that revolve around the introduction of more severe sentences to deter the crime.

While the proposal has sparkled public debate, the government insists that its main focus is on ensuring that young people and communities are protected from the devastating effects of drugs.

Authorities say operations such as the one in Langobaya highlight a broader strategy to disrupt supply chains and hold traffickers accountable under the law.
