The blaze, which started at around 7:00 am near Toi Primary school, is believed to have been a result of an electricity fault.

Traders narrated how they encountered losses, with some estimating damages worth hundreds of thousands of shillings.

“Today I have lost as a businessman, and I don’t know where to start”, he said. I have not even gone to see my stalls because there is nowhere I can pass, I cannot pass. I urge the government to help us. I have lost so much. I have lost goods worth half a million,” George, a trader at the market, told the press.

Elizabeth Atieno, another affected trader, had her business destroyed, leaving her with a Ksh.20,000 loan debt.

“I have incurred a great loss, and now I don’t have anything. As you can see, my friend has been helped, whereas I haven’t gotten anything here, and I pray that the government aids me. The source of the fire is electricity fault,” said Atieno.

The Nairobi County fire brigade responded promptly, arriving at the scene to put out the fire, with no casualties reported.
