Security operations and heightened patrols across the Nairobi Region have led to the disruption of criminal activity following a foiled robbery incident in Jamhuri, along CITAM Church Road.
According to a statement issued by the National Police Service, officers on patrol responded swiftly after receiving distress calls from members of the public reporting a robbery spree allegedly involving two suspects; a rider and a pillion passenger, targeting pedestrians and traders in the busy area.
The National Police Service said the incident unfolded in an area typically characterised by heavy human and vehicle traffic, including worshippers, traders and motorists going about their daily activities.
Police officers pursuing the suspects came under fire after the duo allegedly discharged several rounds in an attempt to evade arrest and intimidate both officers and members of the public.
During the operation, the pillion passenger was intercepted and arrested, while the rider managed to escape, prompting a manhunt.
The service said the arrested suspect was found in possession of a homemade pistol. Officers also recovered one spent cartridge and a bullet believed to have been used during the incident.
Security teams were able to restore order at the scene despite moments of panic, during which members of the public attempted to confront the suspect before officers intervened and secured the area.
The National Police Service noted that the incident highlights ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the capital through sustained operations, surveillance and rapid response to distress calls.
