Shock in Machakos as Residents Discover Decomposing Bodies in Thicket

Investigations are underway in Kathiani, Machakos County, after residents made a disturbing discovery of human remains in a bush, raising fresh concerns over security in the area.

The grim find was made in Kaseveni village within Kithia sub-location, Kaewa location, where locals stumbled upon the decomposing bodies of two women and body parts believed to belong to a child.

Residents said their attention was first drawn to the matter after noticing a dog carrying what appeared to be a human limb. Suspecting something was amiss, they followed the animal into a nearby thicket.

As they moved deeper into the bush, they encountered a foul smell, which eventually led them to the remains. At the scene, they also found a human skull believed to have been there for a considerably longer period.

The discovery has shocked the community, with some residents expressing fears that additional bodies could be concealed within the dense vegetation.

Kathiani Sub-county Police Commander George Kashimiri confirmed the incident and appealed to members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities, especially unusual vehicle movements in remote areas.

The officer also dismissed claims that the bodies had been exposed to acid, explaining that the condition of the remains was consistent with natural decomposition accelerated by high temperatures.

Police officers processed the scene before moving the bodies and the suspected child’s remains to Kathiani Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where postmortem examinations are expected to assist investigators in establishing identities and possible causes of death.

The remote location of the site has raised questions among residents, many of whom believe the bodies may have been dumped there deliberately by individuals familiar with the area.

While some locals have speculated that the deaths could be linked to domestic or family disputes, police have not confirmed any motive and say investigations remain ongoing.

In a separate incident within Machakos County, the body of an unidentified middle-aged man was discovered in a thicket in the Masokani area between Kenol and Koma markets in neighbouring Matungulu Sub-county.

“We have confirmed the incident and the body has been transferred to Kangundo Hospital mortuary pending identification and further investigations,” said Peter Gichohi.

The two incidents have heightened concern among residents and renewed calls for thorough investigations to establish the identities of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities have urged the public to share any information that may assist detectives as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
