The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its crackdown on illegal alcohol and narcotics in Nairobi, arresting four suspects and recovering large quantities of illicit substances during coordinated operations in the Central Business District.

The operations, conducted on Monday, June 15, form part of an ongoing nationwide campaign aimed at eliminating the manufacture, distribution and sale of illicit brews, second-generation liquor and narcotic drugs.
In the first operation, officers raided the Meru Ndogo area at around 5:00 p.m., where they arrested one suspect and seized two boxes of second-generation liquor alongside 270 litres of kangara, an illicit alcoholic brew.
Acting on further intelligence, officers later stormed a building along Old Kirinyaga Road, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects.
During the raid, police recovered 500 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, which had been packed into five bundles. Officers also seized ten bags of unprocessed cannabis and three digital weighing scales believed to have been used in the packaging and distribution of the drugs.
All four suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of illicit alcohol and narcotic substances.
The National Police Service commended the officers involved in the operations for their swift and decisive action, while also acknowledging the role played by members of the public in providing crucial information that led to the arrests.
The police further urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any information regarding the manufacture, distribution or sale of illicit brews and narcotics to the nearest police station.
The latest operation underscores the government’s renewed efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal alcohol and drug trade, which authorities say continue to pose a significant threat to public health, safety and security.
