Police officers in Mombasa Central Sub-County have arrested a suspect following a foiled armed robbery at a commercial establishment in Mwembe Tayari early Wednesday morning.

According to police reports, officers from National Police Service stationed at Mombasa Central Police Station, were on routine foot patrol when they responded swiftly to a distress call from the premises.

Three suspects, allegedly posing as customers, are said to have stormed the establishment armed with machetes (pangas), where they threatened patrons and staff in an attempted robbery.

“The officers from Mombasa Central Police Station, while on foot patrol, swiftly responded to a distress call and foiled the robbery. Three suspects, posing as customers, had stormed the premises armed with machetes (pangas), terrorising patrons and staff,” police said.

Police officers intervened swiftly, subduing and arresting one of the suspects at the scene, while recovering a sharp panga believed to have been used in the attempted robbery.

The two other suspects managed to escape and are currently being pursued by police.

The arrested suspect was taken into custody at Mombasa Central Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of processing.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as officers continue efforts to track down the remaining suspects.

The National Police Service commended the officers for their swift response, noting that the action prevented further harm and underscored ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and enhance public safety.
