NTV Uganda has announced that it has temporarily shifted its broadcasting and publishing operations to digital platforms after an overnight military raid left its physical premises in Kampala inaccessible.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Nation Media Group Uganda (NMG-U), the media house said military personnel raided its offices at Plots 29/35, 8th Street, Industrial Area in Namuwongo, as well as its premises at the Kampala Serena International Conference Centre, at about 1:00 a.m.
According to the statement, the operation resulted in the disconnection of electricity, disrupting normal operations across the company’s television, radio and newspaper platforms.
“The raid, carried out at about 1:00 am on Sunday, June 28, resulted in electricity disconnection and disruption of normal operations across our platforms on radio, TV and newspapers,” stated NMG-U.
“While our offices are closed, we will continue to keep you engaged and informed through our digital platforms.”
The media house assured its readers, viewers, listeners and other stakeholders that it remains committed to delivering news despite the disruption.
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, said on social media that he had ordered the military operation.
The operation disrupted broadcasts by NTV Uganda and Spark TV, which went off air, while The Daily Monitor and radio stations 93.3 KFM and 90.4 Dembe FM also suspended normal operations.
Muhoozi declared the stations would remain shut until they received his personal permission to reopen, stating that all negative stories about Uganda must first be cleared through his office.
“In Uganda, I do not believe in a free press. From now on ALL bad stories about Uganda have to be cleared by my office!” declared Gen. Muhoozi.
“I have the power in Uganda to shut down ANY media house I want to. I have had this power since 2017. This power was given to me by my great father President Kaguta Museveni. NTV and Daily Monitor are learning about it today,” stated Gen. Muhoozi.
