The National Police Service (NPS) has reassured the public of their readiness and heightened preparedness ahead of tomorrow’s by-elections scheduled across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday November 26 by NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the service reiterated their commitment to executing their duties with utmost professionalism and strict adherence to the constitution, in order to facilitate free, fair and transparent mini polls.
NPS also noted its collaboration with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure adequate security deployment in all polling centers.
“In the upcoming by-elections on November 27, 2025, the NPS reiterates its unwavering commitment to executing its duties impartially, professionally, and in strict adherence to the Constitution to facilitate a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process,” the NPS statement read in part.
“Furthermore, the NPS is working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as per the law. The public is assured that adequate security shall be deployed to achieve this objective,” it added.
At the same time, NPS warned political leaders against interfering with the November 27 by-elections, stating that those found culpable will face legal action in accordance with the law.
“The NPS recognizes the vital role of vibrant political discourse in our democracy. Nevertheless, all political actors are urged, regardless of their affiliation, to conduct their activities within the confines of the law,” read the statement.
NPS statement come a day after Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, accused Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja of enabling violence that erupted during his campaign rally in Narok on November 24, 2025.
Gachagua alleged that the government deployed ununiformed police officers to disrupt his campaigns for the DCP candidate in Narok Town Ward, Douglas Masikonde. He further claimed that IG Kanja gave orders to the police to block roads in and out of Narok town, while also ordering them to use live ammunitions and teargas on the crowd.
“Mr. Kanja, it seems you have surrendered the National Police command to Betty Maina; this, you cannot deny,” he stated.
“You have clearly demonstrated through your inaction that violence is under your police command.”
