President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda has confirmed that Uganda’s security forces arrested two Kenyan human rights activists – Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo.
President Museveni who was speaking during a radio talk show in Mbale, descried the two as “experts in riots” working closely with the opposition leader Ssentamu Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine, ahead of next year’s presidential elections.
“In Uganda we have very good intelligence. For instance, we arrested two Kenyans who were working closely with Kyagulanyi’s group. They’re experts in riots. We picked them up and they have been in the fridge for some days”, said Museveni.
The duo, Njagi and Oyoo were reportedly abducted by armed men on 15th of October 2025 in Kampala’s Kireka area. They had attended the launch of the National Unity Platform (NUP) manifesto, where Bobi Wine was unveiled as the party’s presidential candidate.
The two were released on November 7th 2025, after an extended pressure from different human rights groups and a high-level diplomatic intervention between Kenya and Uganda.They were later handed over to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joash Maangi, who escorted them to Busia border.
Njagi and Oyoo narrated being detained at the Kasenyi Military Baracks in Entebbe, where they said they were tortured and starved for 14 days.
Human rights defenders Betty Okero and Boniface Ogutu from Kisumu county described Njagi and Oyoo’s encounter as “traumatic” and expressed relief after their safe return to Kenya.
Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi applauded both the governments of Kenya and Uganda for their cooperation and emphasized that the safety and well-being of Kenyan citizens living abroad remains a non-negotiable priority to the Kenyan government.
