Maraga honors youth for showing solidarity with Kaluma Boy

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has lauded Kenyan youth and TikTokers for showing up in droves to support Kaluma Boy and his family.

In a statement on X platform, Maraga expressed that the gesture and affection shown to Kaluma Boy clearly demonstrates unity among the young generation and readiness to shape the country’s future.

Kaluma Boy, based in Othaya, went viral on TikTok, after he shared videos of himself caring for his ailing father who had suffered a stroke.

He earned a living by plucking tea leaves on a tea plantations, to provide for his father and cater for medical expenses.

“Congratulations to the youth and Tik Tok creators for the massive turnout out to support Kaluma Boy in Othaya today. We wish Mzee a quick recovery,” Maraga wrote on X.

He added: “If Kenyans need confirmation that the future of this country lies in the hands of the youth, they should watch this video.”

Maraga also took a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza administration for repeatedly lying on the viability of the Social Health Authority (SHA). He stated that the youths solidarity with Kaluma Boy is a clear indication that Kenyans are ready to step in where the government has failed.

“Shame on the government for lying, even at international fora, that SHA is working,” Maraga said.

He also reminded the youth that registering as voters is the first step towards achieving political change.

“I urge you, our youth, to translate your zeal & numbers to political power by joining the registration of voters commencing tomorrow as we move forward to #ResetRestoreRebuild Kenya #BallotRevlution.”
