The Kenya High Commission in Canberra has issued a formal statement confirming the death of Kenyan woman working in Sidney, Australia under unclear circumstances.

In a statement released on Monday May 25, 2026, the High Commission identified the woman as Sheila Chebii, though it did not disclose the cause of death.
“The Kenya High Commission in Canberra is deeply saddened by the death of Sheila Chebii, a Kenyan national, in Sydney, Australia,” the statement said.
The Mission acknowledged concerns raised by members of the Kenyan community regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. It confirmed that the High Commission is actively engaging with relevant Australian authorities to obtain factual information and updates in line with Australian laws and procedures.
The Commission further urged the public to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information while official investigations and coronial processes are underway.
“The High Commission urges members of the public to refrain from speculation or dissemination of unverified information while the relevant authorities undertake the necessary investigations and coronial processes,” the statement read in part.
The mission said it will continue engaging through diplomatic and consular channels and provide updates when verified official information becomes available.
