KCSE 2025 kicks off nationwide with 996,078 candidates set to sit the exam

The nationwide Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 began today Friday October 21, with 996,078 students undertaking the examinations.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) timetable, the candidates commenced the national assessment with papes for foreign languages such as French, German and Arabic.

Other papers include Kenyan Sign Language and Music. Practical examinations will begin on Wednesday to Friday October 31.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere stated that besides the KCSE candidates, a total of 1,298,089 candidates registered for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

“At the end of the registration period, a total of 996,078 candidates registered for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. On the other hand, a total of 1,298,089 candidates registered for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA),” Njengere said.

He added that 1,130,669 learners under the Competency-Based Education, registered to sit the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

“The pioneers of the Competency-Based Education will sit the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) this year. A total of 1,130,669 candidates have registered for this assessment.”

Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba had earlier warned against any form of malpractice, urging candidates, center managers, supervisors and invigilators to comply with examination regulations.

“We will have no mercy on anyone who will be found engaging in any form of malpractice. All candidates, centre managers, supervisors and invigilators must comply with examination regulations, failing which they will be subjected to the full force of the law,” CS Ogamba said during the launch of the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season on 3rd October 2025.
