A dramatic high-speed chase along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway ended with the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of cannabis worth approximately Sh3.3 million, in a major anti-narcotics operation conducted by detectives in Nakuru County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), working alongside K9 officers, acted on intelligence reports that led them to a blue Nissan Note, registration number KDN 836H, believed to be transporting illegal narcotics.
When detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver ignored police orders and sped off, triggering a dangerous pursuit along the busy highway.
Despite officers managing to deflate one of the vehicle’s front tyres, the driver continued fleeing at high speed, making a risky U-turn at the KFA Roundabout before racing towards the Eveready area while driving on a damaged rim.
The chase came to an end when the occupants abandoned the vehicle in a desperate attempt to escape on foot. However, detectives swiftly pursued and arrested the two suspects before they could evade capture.
A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered five sacks containing Cannabis Sativa weighing a total of 110 kilograms. Authorities estimated the street value of the recovered narcotics at approximately Sh3.3 million.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Wesonga and Stephen Daria. They were taken into police custody, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The seized cannabis has been secured as exhibit material to support the ongoing investigations and prosecution.
The operation highlights the continued efforts by the Anti-Narcotics Unit and other security agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across the country.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting the supply and distribution of illegal drugs, warning that individuals involved in the narcotics trade will face the full force of the law.
