Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has urged stakeholders in Kenya’s justice sector to embrace technology as a key driver of a more efficient, transparent, and accountable criminal justice system.

Speaking during the 38th National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) meeting in Mombasa, Ingonga emphasized that the adoption of digital solutions is crucial in addressing persistent challenges affecting the administration of justice, including case backlogs and delays in the resolution of criminal matters.

The DPP noted that technology has become an indispensable tool in modern justice systems, enabling institutions to improve coordination, streamline case management, and enhance service delivery to the public.

He said digital transformation would strengthen collaboration among agencies involved in the criminal justice process, leading to faster and more effective handling of cases.

“Technology is no longer optional in the administration of justice. It is a necessity that will enable institutions within the justice sector to improve efficiency, accountability, and access to justice for all Kenyans,” Ingonga said.

He further stressed that embracing innovation would not only improve operational efficiency but also promote greater transparency and public confidence in the justice system.

According to the DPP, integrating technology into criminal case management will help institutions better monitor case progress, reduce unnecessary delays, and ensure justice is delivered within a reasonable time.

The National Council on the Administration of Justice brings together key institutions in the justice sector to discuss strategies for improving the administration of justice and strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

Ingonga’s remarks come as Kenya continues to implement reforms aimed at modernizing the justice sector through digital transformation.

The reforms are expected to improve access to justice, enhance accountability across institutions, and ensure that criminal cases are handled more efficiently while safeguarding the rights of all parties involved.

His call reinforces the government’s broader commitment to leveraging technology to build a more responsive, accessible, and effective justice system for all Kenyans.
