Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i

Speaking on Sunday during an interview with Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange, Matiang’i said there is no political common ground between them, indicating that cooperation in future political arrangements is not an option.

Matiang’i who is one of the principals of the United Opposition, stated that President Ruto has a history of falling out with leaders he works with, reiterating that there is no likelihood of a political partnership between them.

“I would not be willing to work with President William Ruto. What would we be discussing? Work with him on what? Look at his history, the people he has been wanting to work with, and he is already quarreling with the ones he has been working with,” Matiang’i said.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary maintained that he intends to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming Presidential election, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to deliver for Kenyans.

He claimed that the government has been rolling out programmes without sufficient impact, arguing that this performance will be a key factor in determining its fate at the ballot.

“I have not thought about not being President. I would not invest in something if I am not like 70-80% sure about it. I am confident, sibahatishi, I am serious about everything I do. I can’t see President Ruto’s pathway to election victory,” said Matiang’i.

On whether he was willing to work with the Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi team, Matiang’i said he was open to working with them, citing their youthful energy and and commitment to defending the rights of Kenyans.

“I like Sifuna a lot. That group of young legislators is fantastic; they are an excellent example of where Kenya is today. I admire their courage. Given an opportunity, I would love to work with them. I like them a lot and what they are doing. I would work with Sifuna, Babu, and the whole gang,” Matiang’i noted.

He extended an olive branch to Sifuna and his colleagues in the Linda Mwananchi brigade, saying, “hanging Kenya is not going to be a one-man guitar, the more we are, the better.”
