Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) have intercepted a significant consignment of contraband alcohol and suspected narcotic drugs during a routine security operation along the Busia-Kisumu Road.

According to NPS, the operation, carried out on Sunday May 3, 2026, at the Suo roadblock, involved a coordinated multi-agency team that stopped a Nairobi-bound public service minibus for inspection.
“Upon conducting a thorough search, the team recovered twenty-four packages of uncustomed Simba Gin, each containing twenty-four 200ml bottles, alongside five bales of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa,” a statement from NPS read.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody, where he awaits processing and arraignment in court. Authorities also detained the vehicle as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Police have launched a manhunt for another suspect who reportedly fled during the operation.
The National Police Service stated that the interception underscores its ongoing efforts to combat illicit trade, drug trafficking, and related criminal activities across the country.
