Detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) have successfully recovered two Isuzu lorries that were stolen in Murang’a County following a meticulous investigation that led to the arrest of five suspects and the tracing of the vehicles to Mombasa County.

The two lorries, an Isuzu FVZ registration number KDQ 845T and an Isuzu FRR registration number KDL 078W were stolen in a daring daylight operation which took place in Gatanga on August 16, 2025. The incident left the owners of the lorries counting losses and leading to a swift response from security agencies.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the theft. The suspects were identified as Mark Kinyua, Peter Njuguna Gitau, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru.

The suspects, during interrogation allegedly provided crucial leads that aided in the tracing of the stolen vehicles to Makupa area in Mombasa County, where they had been concealed and tampered with in an attempt to evade detection.

Investigators revealed that the Isuzu FVZ had been fitted with a fake registration plate KDV 449C, while the Isuzu FRR was carrying fake plates KCA 505D.

Police said that organized vehicle theft syndicates use fake number plates as a common tactic to disguise stolen vehicles and facilitate their resale or illegal use.

The recovered lorries have been transported to DCI Gatanga, where they are being processed before being handed back to the rightful owners, restoring hope and justice to those affected by this crime.

Meanwhile, the five suspects remain in police custody as detectives finalize on the investigations ahead of their arraignment in court.
