DCI Officers Intercept Meth Consignment Destined for Philippines at JKIA

A multi-agency team led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has intercepted a consignment of Methamphetamine valued at Ksh 10.5 million that was destined for the Philippines.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday, May 6, 2026, targeted a suspicious parcel at a KQ Shed at the airport.

“In a swift and decisive operation, a multi-agency team led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) JKIA today, 6th May 2026, at around 11:30 hours, conducted a verification exercise on a highly suspicious consignment at the United Parcel Service-G4S facility within the KQ Shed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” DCI said in a statement.

According to investigators, the package was being shipped from Nairobi to Las Piñas in the Philippines and had been falsely declared as “handmade bags and clothes” in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

However, during a thorough physical inspection carried out in the presence of the joint security team, officers discovered white crystal substances hidden inside two handbags and wrapped in clear bags.

Preliminary tests established that the substance was Methamphetamine weighing 1,320 grams, with an estimated street value of Ksh 10,560,000.

Authorities have since seized and detained the consignment as investigations continue to identify and apprehend those behind the trafficking attempt.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said it remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through intelligence-led operations and enhanced multi-agency cooperation.
