Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit have arrested a man linked to the alleged fraudulent transfer of a parcel of land in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

The suspect, identified as Joseph Njuguna Kamau, was apprehended following investigations into the disputed ownership of a 0.405-hectare parcel of land in the Kikopey area.

According to investigators, the complainant reported that she is the legitimate owner of the property, having purchased it from a seller who held shares in Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises. She later claimed she was unlawfully evicted from the land.

“The complainant reported that she is the rightful owner of a land parcel in Kikopey measuring approximately 0.405 hectares, having acquired it from a seller who had shares with Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises. Later on, she was evicted from her parcel of land,” DCI said in a statement.

Investigations established that the property had allegedly been fraudulently sold to another unsuspecting buyer. At the time of the alleged offence, Kamau was serving as the company secretary of Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises.

Upon completion of investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining registration by false pretences against the suspect.

Detectives later tracked Kamau to the Miharati area, where he was arrested before being escorted to Naivasha Police Station for processing.

He is expected to be arraigned at the Naivasha Law Courts to face the approved charges.
