Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has issued a statement to reassure the public following temporary fuel supply challenges reported at a number of filling stations in parts of the country.

In a Press Release issued on Wednesday April 6, 2026, CS Wandayi noted that the fuel supply disruptions were caused by a technical and administrative hitch affecting a few oil marketing companies.
“The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum wishes to inform the public that the temporary fuel supply challenges experienced in isolated filling stations in some parts of the country arose from a technical and administrative hitch,” Wandayi said.
“This curtailed the optimal uptake of petroleum products by a few oil marketing companies operating in the downstream of the supply chain,” he added.
He further assured Kenyans that the matter has been resolved, adding that fuel restocking is currently underway in various filling stations, with normal supply expected to be fully restored across the country by the end of the day.
“The matter has since been resolved, and the Ministry is working closely with industry stakeholders to normalize deliveries. Fuel restocking in various filling stations is underway, and normal supply across the country will be attained by the end of the day today,” the CS noted.
CS Wandayi maintained that the country has sufficient fuel stocks, easing concerns over recent temporary supply disruptions, and adding that there is no cause for alarm over the recent supply disruptions.
Wandayi also emphasized that the government remains committed to safeguarding national energy security and ensuring a reliable supply of fuel for households, businesses, and industries across the country.
“The Government remains committed to safeguarding national energy security and ensuring reliable fuel supply for households, businesses, and industries nationwide,” he assured.
