The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned political parties, candidates and their supporters against wearing party-branded clothing or displaying campaign symbols at polling stations during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026.

Speaking ahead of the mini-poll, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon said the official campaign period ended on July 13, meaning all election-related campaigning must cease in accordance with electoral laws.
Ethekon emphasized that only authorised and accredited individuals will be allowed access to polling stations, adding that the commission will strictly enforce the regulations to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible voting process.
“We wish to remind the public and supporters of political candidates that we shall not admit any person who is wearing a badge, clothing or symbol or any other item signifying support for a political party or candidate,” Ethekon said.
The IEBC chair further warned political leaders against arriving at polling centres accompanied by unauthorised security personnel or groups of supporters, saying such actions could disrupt the electoral process.
“We will not allow anybody, whether a senior politician or who has not been cleared or accredited by IEBC to come with their security or supporters to try disturb peace at police station,” he said.
According to the commission, the restrictions are aimed at preserving the integrity of the by-election and ensuring that voters cast their ballots in a calm and neutral environment, free from intimidation or undue political influence.
The electoral agency has urged all stakeholders, including candidates, political parties, security agencies and voters, to comply with the laid-down regulations throughout the exercise.
It also called on residents of Ol Kalou Constituency to maintain peace and cooperate with election officials to facilitate a smooth voting process.
The Ol Kalou by-election will be held on Thursday, July 16, with the IEBC expressing confidence that adherence to the electoral guidelines will contribute to a transparent, free and fair election.
