The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a 30-day notice to illegal roadside traders and occupants operating along the Ruiru-Githunguri-Uplands (B116) Road, directing them to remove their goods and vacate the road reserve ahead of planned road safety and infrastructure improvement works.

In a public notice issued on Friday July 10, 2026, the authority said the directive applies to all unauthorised traders, structures and other occupants encroaching on the road reserve.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) hereby notifies all illegal roadside occupants, including traders and unauthorized structures along the Ruiru – Githunguri – Uplands (B116) Road, to remove their wares and vacate the road reserve within thirty (30) days from the date of this notice,” the KeNHA notice read.
KeNHA said the exercise is part of its ongoing road safety improvement programme aimed at reducing road accidents, improving traffic flow and facilitating infrastructure development along the project corridor.
The authority urged all affected traders to comply with the notice within the stipulated period to avoid enforcement action.
The notice takes effect immediately, with the 30-day grace period set to expire on August 10, 2026. KeNHA warned that any structures or businesses remaining within the road reserve after the deadline will be removed in accordance with the laws governing road reserves.
“All affected traders are urged to comply within the stipulated timeframe upon the expiry of this notice, on August 10, 2026 to avoid enforcement action in accordance with the relevant laws governing road reserves,” KeNHA noted.
The authority has called on all affected parties to cooperate with the exercise to ensure the successful implementation of the road improvement project and enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
