KeNHA Announces Partial Closure of Waiyaki Way for Footbridge Construction

Motorists using Waiyaki Way in Nairobi should prepare for traffic disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a partial closure of a section of the busy highway to facilitate ongoing infrastructure works.

In a public notice issued on June 18, 2026, KeNHA said the Nakuru-bound carriageway between Karuna Close and the Westlands Roundabout will be partially closed from June 25 to September 25, 2026.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road from Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” the notice read.

According to the authority, the closure is necessary to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge near Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho-QuickMart Westlands Footbridge.

The project is aimed at improving pedestrian safety and enhancing mobility along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors.

“This closure is to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho – QuickMart Westlands Footbridge,” KeNHA noted.

KeNHA urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to adhere to all temporary traffic signs and traffic management measures that will be put in place during the construction period.

Drivers have also been advised to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site to help manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions.

“Motorists are further advised to approach the affected section with caution, observe and comply with all temporary traffic signs and traffic control measures as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority said.

The three-month partial closure is expected to affect traffic movement along Waiyaki Way, particularly during peak hours, with motorists encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
