Police in Migori County have arrested a man who was allegedly found in possession of an illegal firearm during a football match at Sony Green Stadium in Awendo.

The suspect, identified as Godfrey Otieno, alias “Daddy,” was apprehended after attempting to access the VIP section during a match between Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC.
According to police, security officers stationed at the venue intercepted Otieno and attempted to restrain him. During the encounter, he allegedly produced a CZ pistol, prompting officers to swiftly disarm and arrest him before the situation escalated.
Authorities said the firearm was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition. Preliminary investigations further established that the suspect was posing as a member of the Kenya Defence Forces at the time of the incident.
Investigators later identified the firearm as belonging to Peter Jobando, a licensed civilian firearm holder. Jobando was subsequently arrested after reportedly admitting that he had handed the weapon to Otieno.
Police said Jobando is being investigated for allegedly allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm, contrary to firearms regulations.
Both suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations. The pistol has been retained as an exhibit as detectives continue with inquiries into the incident.
No injuries were reported, and the football match proceeded after security officers restored order at the stadium.
