World football governing body FIFA, has directly instructed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, Vice President McDonald Mariga, along with the rest of the National Executive Committee to refrain from any further decisions that could worsen the ongoing internal leadership disputes.

In a letter issued on Tuesday June 2, 2026, FIFA’s Team Lead for Member Association Governance Services, Ahmed Harraz, emphasised the need for strict adherence to the FKF Constitution to preserve institutional stability.
“FIFA considers it essential that all matters affecting the governance and leadership of the federation be handled in strict compliance with the FKF Constitution and with the utmost care, in order to preserve the stability and proper functioning of the federation,” the letter read in part.
FIFA revealed it is currently coordinating with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to organise a joint mission to Kenya, expected to take place on 18 June 2026.
The delegation aims to engage directly with members of the FKF National Executive Committee to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing situation.
“We kindly but firmly request that the members of the FKF National Executive Committee refrain, in the meantime, from convening further meetings or taking decisions that may have an impact on the governance, leadership or overall stability of the federation until the FIFA/CAF mission has taken place and the relevant discussions have been held.”
The intervention comes at a time when deep divisions persist within the FKF NEC, following earlier attempts by a section of the committee, reportedly led by Vice President McDonald Mariga, to suspend President Hussein Mohammed and General Secretary Dennis Gicheru.
FIFA had previously rejected that process as unconstitutional.
FIFA is now pushing for calm, urging all parties to hold fire and allow the upcoming joint mission to engage directly with NEC members, gather facts, and provide guidance on the way forward.
