Two suspected phone snatchers have been arrested in Mandera East Sub-County following a police operation that led to the recovery of several stolen mobile phones.

The suspects were apprehended by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) during an intelligence-led operation conducted in the Kona B area of Mandera Town. Investigators believe the two are members of a local criminal syndicate involved in phone-snatching incidents within the area.
Following the arrests, officers conducted a search at the suspects’ rented residence in Kona B, where they recovered four mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
“Two suspected phone snatchers found in possession of stolen mobile phones have been placed in police custody following a successful operation by National Police Service officers in Mandera East Sub-County,” NPS said in a statement.
“Acting on intelligence, the officers conducted an operation in the Kona B area of Mandera Town, leading to the arrest of the two suspects, who are believed to be members of a local phone-snatching syndicate.”
Police subsequently traced the owners of the devices, who visited the police station and positively identified the recovered phones as their property.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue and authorities prepare to take further legal action.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting members of the public and combating criminal activities across the country.
According to the service, intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks will continue as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and safeguard residents from theft and other crimes.
