Kenya Met Warns of Continued Heavy Rains Across Country Through Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that heavy rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country on Friday and throughout the weekend, with residents in affected regions advised to remain alert due to the likelihood of persistent wet conditions.

In an advisory issued on Wednesday, the Kenya Meteorological Department stated that heavy downpours are expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and North-Eastern Kenya.

“As we prepare for the Labour Day celebrations and the long weekend, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country, especially over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya,” Kenya Met stated.

According to the weather authority, the affected regions include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and North-Eastern Kenya, where intermittent showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day and night.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, Kenya Met said that morning rains are expected in a few areas, followed by showers and thunderstorms in several places in the afternoon, and continued showers at night.

In the north-western region, morning rains will affect a few areas, with showers and thunderstorms expected to spread to several places in the afternoon, before easing to showers in a few areas at night.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience morning rains in a few places, afternoon showers and thunderstorms across several areas, and evening showers in some parts.

In North-Eastern Kenya, morning rains are expected in a few places, with afternoon thunderstorms in several areas and evening showers persisting in a few locations.

The south-eastern lowlands are also expected to record morning rains in a few areas, afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several places, and light evening showers.

Along the Coast, showers are expected in a few places in the morning, afternoon, and night, with generally light and scattered rainfall activity.

Authorities have urged residents in affected regions to remain on high alert as heavy rainfall events are expected in some areas, with the Kenya Meteorological Department warning that wet conditions are likely to persist across several parts of the country.
