Major drug bust as police seize cannabis sativa across the country

Police officers conducting intelligence-led operations have arrested several drug peddlers and recovered a substantial haul of cannabis sativa in a nationwide crackdown on narcotics trafficking.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday April 20, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and reduce the circulation of narcotics in the country.

In Nakuru, the detectives nabbed a 32-year-old suspect identified as Felix Mittunda Genchabe. A swift search of his backpack revealed Cannabis Sativa which had allegedly been concealed and prepared for distribution.

Authorities added that the suspect is believed to have been part of a wider drug supply network, which has now been disrupted following his arrest.

Elsewhere, in Bumula, Bungoma County, acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a speeding motorcycle, arresting two suspects, Josphat Ochieng and Yusuf Keya, who were found in possession of four bales of bhang.

Similarly in Kaptalamwa, Elgeyo Marakwet, the crackdown claimed one trafficker. Isaac Kibet Odipo, aged 30. He was cornered while in possession of 172 rolls of bhang.

All suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment. DCI say the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.

“These operations underscore the National Police Service’s commitment in the war against narcotics trafficking in the country.”
