Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has called for the withdrawal of military personnel he claims has surrounded his home.

Through a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday morning, Bobi Wine stated that the security forces have blocked his family from getting supplies including food. He described the situation as unsafe and unlawful.

He also accused the security forces of denying his family their basic rights.

“We demand that the military vacate our home immediately. My wife and people are not safe. They’re starving after these criminals blocked food from reaching them. They cut the padlocks of our gates and replaced them with chains,” Bobi Wine said.

On Saturday January 17, 2026, Bobi Wine had alleged that the military and police raided his home in Magere but he managed to flee leaving his wife and other family members behind.

He added that the security personnel switched off power and cut off some of the CCTV cameras during the night operation. He also shared some of the photos taken during the alleged raid.

“Last night (Friday night) was very difficult at our home in Magere. The military and police raided us. They switched off power and cut off some of our CCTV cameras. There were helicopters hovering over,” Wine said.

“I want to confirm that I escaped from them. Currently, I am not at home, although my wife and other family members remain under house arrest,” he said, adding that the security forces were looking for him everywhere.

However, Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke refuted the reports, terming them as misleading. “The allegations are deceitful and inciteful and intended to depict the security agencies as brutal and violators of the rights of a political candidate.”

Earlier on, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, President Museveni’s son, issued a public ultimatum to Bobi Wine, urging him to surrender to the police within 48 hours or “we will treat him as an outlaw/rebel and handle him accordingly.”
