Embakasi East MP Babu Owino

Speaking during a televised interview on Wednesday January 14, 2026, Babu Owino stated that he has received overwhelming messages from Kenyans, urging him to contest the Nairobi’s top seat.

“I can tell you today, before the Almighty God, that I will be the next governor of Nairobi,” Babu said.

He also addressed the rumours circulating about a possible partnership with Kiharu Constituency lawmaker, Ndindi Nyoro, as his deputy in the Nairobi race, noting that the window remains open for such a collaboration.

The Embakasi East legislator reiterated that Hon. Ndindi and he possess the intellectual capacity to guide the city and the nation toward prosperity.

“There are 10 million telling me to go for the presidency, 8.9 million telling me to run for the governor position, and 5 million saying I should convince Ndindi to be my deputy,” Babu stated.

“You have seen messages saying that Ndindi and I can both aim for the presidency at the same time as President and Deputy. What you should know is that at the end of the day, there is still a window that we can decide,” he added.

Owino pointed out that their political acumen, passion to work for the people and the connection with the youth could make them a formidable team.

“If we decide, because we are two great leaders with intellect, political acumen, and passion and energy to work for the people, the youthful vote can finish somebody,” Owino remarked.

Ndindi Nyoro who appeared alongside Babu during the interview, however declined to disclose whether he plans to leave the Kiharu MP seat in pursuit of a higher political position. He asserted that it was premature to make such declarations.

The two leaders also declined to reveal the political parties they will use to vie for their respective seats.

The Nairobi gubernatorial race has attracted several political heavyweights including Babu Owino, Makadara MP George Aladwa, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and former PS Irungu Nyakera.
