US Embassy in Nairobi Issues Advisory Over Planned Protests Near Gigiri Offices

The United States Embassy in Kenya has issued a warning to its citizens living in Kenya, following planned protests near their Gigiri offices in Nairobi.

Embassy of the United States in Nairobi

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Embassy urged US citizens to remain cautious due to planned demonstrations reportedly in response to the recent US military operation in Venezuela, that resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.

According to the alert, the demonstrations, scheduled for Wednesday January 14, 2026, has been called by the Communist Party Marxist Kenya. The embassy added that the group is expected to be small, with a maximum of 50 participants.

“There are reports on social media calling for a demonstration in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy on Wednesday, January 14, in protest of U.S. military action in Venezuela,” the statement read.

The embassy also warned that traffic around the area will be affected due to the protests, urging motorists to seek alternative routes and exercise caution.

US citizens were further urged to monitor local media for updates on the situation, avoid crowds and keep a low profile until the situation calms down. They were also urged to stay in touch with family and friends and stay aware of their surroundings.

“Monitor local media for updates; avoid crowds; avoid demonstrations; keep a low profile; notify friends and family of your safety; and be aware of your surroundings,” the notice read.

The Nairobi demonstrations comes after the United States military on January 3, 2026, conducted a raid in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, capturing President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. The two were then transported to the US for arraignment before a federal court in New York.

Maduro later pleaded not guilty to charges presented by the US government, including cocaine-trafficking conspiracy and partnered with cartels designated as terrorist groups.

He had previously called the charges against him as plan by the US to seize control of Venezuela’s vast oil reserves as part of a broader effort to dominate the country’s resources and weaken his government.
