President William Ruto on Tuesday launched the fifth disbursement of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project business start-up capital, releasing Ksh103.9 million to benefit 4,159 young entrepreneurs from Samburu, Laikipia, Isiolo, and Marsabit counties.

The event took place at Archers Post in Samburu County, marking another milestone in the government’s efforts to expand economic opportunities for Kenya’s youths.
The programme is set to give each beneficiary Ksh25,000, with Ksh22,000 deposited into Pochi La Biashara account to help in supporting business operations and Ksh3,000 directed into a Haba na Haba savings account with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
Speaking during the launch ceremony, President Ruto urged the youths to focus on productive economic pursuits that will help transform their lives.
“The youth want a better future, they want to know how they will get jobs, better education, how they will venture into business, and what support they will get from their government. And that is what we are doing”, the president said, emphasizing on the importance of economic independence over short-term political interests.
President Ruto also called on political leaders to stop exploiting young people for their own political gain and instead, focus on delivering concrete plans for the development of the country.
“Stop tribal talk, hatred and falsehoods, and present your plan. Kenyans can differentiate those with a plan from those without a plan”, he said.
The NYOTA Project is financed by development partners and implemented through the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which aims at empowering youth across the country through access to capital, business training and structured mentorship.
According to the officials, the initiative will benefit 100,000 young Kenyans, with at least 70 beneficiaries in every ward countrywide.
In attendance were Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and county governors from participating regions.
