Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi is recuperating in India, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirms

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has reaffirmed that Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi is recovering well and is currently receiving specialized medical care in India.

Speaking after visiting the legislature at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India, Wetangula confirmed that Hon. Wnyonyi is responding well to treatment and is expected to recover soon.

“I visited Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India, where he is undergoing specialised treatment. I was encouraged by the progress he has made and remain optimistic about his recovery,” Wetangula said.

Wetangula also thanked the medical team, on behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Kenya, for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring the MP’s well-being. He asserted that Parliament stands in solidarity with Hon. Wanyonyi and his family as he continues his recovery.

He also observed that India, and Kerala in particular, has become a preferred medical destination for many Kenyans seeking specialised medical care due to the quality of services, advanced technology and relative affordability.

The Speaker further reiterated the need for Kenya to explore partnership opportunities with Indian health institutions, in specialist training, expertise transfer, research, and structured referral systems.

 “Upon my return to Nairobi, I will engage relevant parliamentary committees to explore partnerships in specialist training, expertise transfer, research, and structured referral systems to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare capacity.”

While addressing parliament on December 4, 2025, Wetangula dismissed circulating rumours that MP Wanyonyi had passed away, describing them as baseless.

He explained that the ailing MP was initially admitted at Nairobi hospital for about a month before doctors recommended advanced care in India.

“I want to clarify that the honourable Ferdinand Wanyonyi is unwell. He was in Nairobi hospital for about a month, and doctors recommended that we take him to India,” Wetangula noted.

Wanyonyi, who is currently serving is third consecutive term, was first elected MP for Kwanza Constituency in 2013. He got re-elected in 2017 and again in 2022.
