Six people have died while 46 others are nursing injuries after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a road accident with a trailer at the Tunnel area along Londiani-Muhoroni road in Kericho County.

According to Kericho County police commander James Ngetich, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the bus belonging to Uwezo Sacco, rammed into the rear of a trailer. He added that the two vehicles were heading to Kisumu.
Six people including the driver of the bus died on the spot while 30 passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to Londiani and Fortenan hospitals.
Ngetich stated that 13 passengers however, had minor injuries and were treated and discharged.
The police commander further noted that the cause of the accident is yet to be established as investigations continue. He urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads to prevent avoidable incidents.
This came as a Guardian Bus ferrying student returning to school from Nairobi overturned at Kimende area along Nairobi-Nakuru highway on January 6, 2026. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported though some students sustained minor injuries.
The separate accidents come amid a spike in road crashes across the country, as people travel from various destinations after the festive season.
On Monday January 5, 2026, 10 people lost their lives while 15 others were left with injuries after an early morning crash along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
The incident occurred at around 1:00am when a Nairobi bound Greenline bus collided head-on with a Nakuru-bound Nanyuki cabs shuttle at Karai area.
