Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that Edwin Sifuna will be stripped off his role as ODM Party Secretary General and Senate Deputy Minority Whip this week.

In a social media post on Monday January 5, Senator Cherargei stated that Sifuna’s goose is cooked for publicly opposing the broad-based government and aligning himself with the opposition faction.
He further opined that it was inappropriate for Sifuna to vote in favour of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, only to later jump ship and join forces with him. The Nandi Senator, however, did not provide any evidence to support his allegations.
“For the record Sifuna voted yes, Debated & lobbied to impeach Gachagua in 2024 from the Deputy President of Kenya position, this shows a he is an architect of deceit, hypocrisy and deception politics,” Cherargei said.
“This week ODM will remove him as the secretary General, in senate we shall remove him from deputy minority whip and he will be free to join saboteurs of Broad-based government,” he added.
In recent times, Sifuna has faced numerous onslaughts from his counterparts within the ODM Party, with some accusing him of sabotaging the broad-based arrangement between President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga.
A section of ODM leaders who favour the continued cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration has urged him to resign as Secretary General and join the United Opposition.
This comes after the Nairobi Senator alleged that a section of ODM’s top leadership were planning to sell the party to President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a swift response, ODM Party youth league leader Kasmuel McOure, explained that Sifuna is unfit to serve as Secretary General and maintained that ODM will remain strong and united even in his absence.
Kasmuel added that Sifuna has failed to deliver on his oversight role as Nairobi Senator, choosing instead to fuel disunity and undermine Raila Odinga’s legacy.
“The outgoing Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement, Mr Edwin Sifuna, must be reminded in no uncertain terms that it is he who needs the Orange Democratic Movement and not the other way around, that his exit will not be a big blow as his hype men try to deceive him,” Kasmuel stated.
