The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has received a significant technological boost in its fight against drug trafficking following the donation of advanced investigative equipment by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The support is expected to strengthen the operational capacity of the DCI’s Anti-Narcotics Unit, enhancing its ability to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle transnational organised criminal networks involved in drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
The equipment was officially handed over by the NCA International Liaison Officer in Nairobi, Amanda Hickman, during a ceremony attended by the Director of the DCI, Mohamed I. Amin, alongside senior officials from both agencies.
Speaking during the event, the DCI Director welcomed the development, noting the importance of adopting modern tools in law enforcement.
“To effectively counter criminal networks that exploit digital technologies and complex financial systems, we must equip ourselves with the right tools,” Amin said.
Ms. Hickman reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s security efforts, saying the donation reflects confidence in the professionalism and capability of the DCI.
“This donation reflects the United Kingdom’s confidence in the professionalism of the DCI and its vital role in safeguarding both national and regional security,” she said.
The collaboration between the DCI and the NCA has been central in tackling a range of serious crimes, including narcotics trafficking, money laundering, cyber-enabled crime, human trafficking, and terrorism financing.
The newly donated equipment is expected to significantly enhance intelligence collection and analysis, secure data storage, case management systems, and the handling of digital evidence, ultimately enabling more efficient, intelligence-led investigations.
The DCI expressed gratitude for the continued support from the United Kingdom, noting that the partnership has played a key role in strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery.
The development underscores ongoing cooperation between Kenya and the UK in the global fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.
