The government has said that the 10,000-seater Voi Stadium at Vindo is steadily rising into a landmark sporting facility expected to transform sports development in Taita-Taveta County and the wider Coast region.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi said the project is part of a broader push to unlock athletic talent and improve access to world-class sporting infrastructure.
“The 10,000-seater Voi Stadium at Vindo is gradually turning into a landmark sporting arena; a facility designed to redefine sports development and unlock the immense talent in Taita-Taveta County and the greater Coast region,” the statement read.
He added that the facility is being designed to meet international standards and will feature a standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, fully equipped changing rooms, a VIP pavilion, and spacious spectator terraces.
“The facility will feature a standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, fully equipped changing rooms, a VIP pavilion, spacious spectator terraces, and other top amenities befitting a premier sports complex.”
Once completed, the stadium is expected to boost sports tourism and position Voi as a key destination for major sporting events across the Coast region.
The new arena will also complement existing infrastructure such as the Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi, forming part of a wider network of facilities aimed at strengthening talent identification and development across the county.
“For a county renowned for producing gifted footballers, athletes, and volleyball players, Voi Stadium will provide the platform where talent can flourish, champions can be forged, and sporting ambitions can become reality,” the statement said.
Upon completion, the county is expected to join other devolved units capable of hosting top-tier sporting events, reinforcing the Coast region’s growing status as a premier sporting destination in Kenya.
