Two KRA Officials Arrested Over Alleged KSh3 Million Bribe Demand

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two employees of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe linked to a tax dispute.

The suspects, Faith Gathoni Njoroge and Tyson Marango Owuor, who are based at KRA’s Upper Hill offices, were arrested following claims that they demanded KSh3 million from a taxpayer in exchange for influencing the settlement of a Capital Gains Tax assessment amounting to Sh4.5 million.

According to the EACC, the arrest followed a complaint from a taxpayer who reported that the officials had made the demand to facilitate a favourable resolution of the tax matter.

Acting on the complaint, EACC detectives mounted an operation during which the suspects were allegedly caught receiving Sh900,000, which was part of the alleged bribe amount.

The money was recovered during the operation, and the two suspects were taken into custody.

They are currently being processed at Integrity Centre pending completion of investigations and further action under the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.

The Commission has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption within public institutions and warned that officers implicated in bribery will face legal consequences.
